The Public Relations Office of the Markazi province Department of Environment quoted Mehrdad Haji Hosseini telling the reporters on Sunday about the surveillance of Haftat Qolleh protected area, which he added, confirmed the death of 169 deers; “the sole method to prevent the Ovine rinderpest, also commonly known as peste des petits ruminants (PPR) is disinfection of all water sources of the region, collecting and disposing of the dead bodies of the affected animals,” he added. “The disease has hit the population of ruminants of the protected area since a month ago,” Haji Hosseini said.
“To carry out a precise survey and estimation of exact number of the dead bodies left in the nature and in impassable spots, the Department of Environment of the province will urge the aid from government body members of the Environmental Crises Workgroup and NGOs,” he told reporters. “During the 3rd survey of the region, 55 people including the heads of local Department offices, Veterinary Authority of the province, and volunteers and lovers of the environment and activists of Saveh and Arak participated and found in 20 different routes of polluted areas 53 corpses, and burned them or disposed of them in a sanitary way,” Haji Hosseini detailed.
“Among the total of 169 ruminant victims of the disease, 69 per cent are goats,” he added.
